Consistently rated in lists of the world’s top wreck diving sites The Diving Club Reading are pleased to announce their trip to Scapa Flow 2016.
Located in the Orkney Islands, Scapa Flow was home to the German High Seas Fleet when interned at the end of WW1 and in 1919 over 50 ships were scuttled here by their crews. Many were salvaged over the forthcoming decades and there are now 7 main complete wrecks that are dived.
The sheer size of the battleships is awe inspiring and the trip is planned so as to dive all of the main wrecks, they easily warrant at least two dives each.
We have booked Radiant Queen Charters new boat the MV Huskyan and their excellent 6 bedroomed self-catered apartment a stone’s throw from the quayside (and the nearest pub).
Emily the skipper/owner has unrivalled knowledge of the dive sites having spent many dives guiding people on the wrecks, and her dive briefings are among the best we’ve seen; knowledgeable, accurate, informative and fun. They really do help you get the most from each dive no matter what your dive plan. The lunches she cooks on board are also guaranteed to keep you fully fuelled… YUM !
You DON’T need to be a twinset/sidemount/rebreather/knarly technical diver to dive the Scapa wrecks as most dives will be less than 40m.
You should have however, a minimum qualification to allow you to dive to 40m i.e. PADI Deep speciality along with suitable diving experience. If you are not sure what this implies speak to your friendly dive organiser/previous attendee’s
Naturally for those suitably qualified and experienced there is the opportunity to plan and execute penetration dives within the wrecks and undertake decompression diving.
The diving dates for the trip are September 4th 2016 - September 9th 2016 (arrival at Stromness on the 3rd, depart on the 10th).
The cost of the trip will be £480* per diver.
